Objetos de Memória
Solo exhibition at Casa Das Artes Bissaya Barreto in Coimbra, Porto, from 4th May until 10th August 2024.
"Objects are often at the heart of our memories. We use them to help us remember specific experiences. We store memories in objects, helping us extend our physical mind. Objects help us travel in time to revisit places and people who might no longer exist. They help us imagine the future, using our memories of the past. They even help us define who we are.
This exhibition, ‘Objectos de Memoria’, draws on the most up-to-date philosophical theories about memory, expressing these ideas in new ways.
They are possible answers to questions such as, ‘What is a memory, and how is it made?’, ‘How can my memory be stored in an object?’, and ‘Do my individual memories help create social or cultural memory?’"
Included were first showings of the works Kintsugi Omega Star (Integrity Failure 2020), Origami Quilt (Yakko-San), Seven Treasured Memories and Sunken Land.
An installation of over 400 metamorphogram cranes welcomed visitors.
